Pros

I am a Supervisor in SVM's Warehouse and have been with SVM for 9 years. SVM has a diverse group of people and long-term employees that have been with the company for many years. The company has a professional atmosphere where people know what they are doing and go quietly about their work. Our company is known for quick-turn orders. When we receive an order we process it, fill it and ship or deliver it within 4 hours and we do this kind of order often. We have a good sense of teamwork that helps us move product in and out smoothly and on-time. We are all proud of the operation we run here. SVM's owner is always looking for ways to improve all aspects of company, including the building and our working environment. I give SVM very high marks as a place to work.

Cons

SVM is a small company so we may not get all the benefits big companies get, such as free lunches, daycare, on-site banking. SVM however does give health, dental, vision, 401k and life insurance to employees. To me, personal/family time and the small company culture we have at SVM far outweighs the benefits of working for a large company.

Thank you for your review. We take great pride in our distribution center and agree with you that we have an amazing warehouse crew. Many on our crew have been with SVM for longer than 5 years – some as long as 11 years. You and the rest of the team are such an important part of the company and we applaud you for the all great work you do. I agree with your statement that personal/family time far outweighs the benefits of working for a large company. We endeavor to get our work done within a normal 8-hour work day and to enjoy our evenings and weekends with our families/friends. We are a small company when compared to others here in Silicon Valley, however we are always trying to come up with ways to provide more and better benefits/perks for our team. Again, thank you for your review and for everything you do for SVM!

Pros

- Coworkers are great and like family. - Unlimited potential upside in sales position. Sales managers make a 20% commission of the margin that they bring in for the company. There is no cap on commission so if you work hard enough you can make some serious money. - Once you are established as a Sales Manager with a good base of accounts, you have a lot of flexibility to work remotely or in a hybrid capacity. - I've gotten to travel the world to lots of amazing places meeting with customers. All throughout Europe and Asia.

Cons

- Mostly hands-off management style. This can be a plus but if you are not the best self-starter then you may struggle. - Poor work/Life balance. You are expected to always be available/working and answer emails from customers promptly, even if it is the weekend or after hours. We work with customers around the globe so it's not uncommon to have business calls in the early morning (Europe) or late afternoon/night (Asia).

Pros

I have worked at SVM for over 14 years and it is an excellent company to work for. SVM is a company that cares a lot about its employees and the environment. One of the things I like about SVM is that it is a green company. Not only does SVM recycle - bottles, cans, paper, cardboard, packing material, etc., we also look to make improvements to our building to help the environment and save cost. About 90% of the power we use comes from our rooftop and carport solar panels, all installed by our sister company, Vista Solar. SVM also installed electric car chargers under the carport free for employees to use and charge their vehicles. More recently because of the drought, the company installed artificial grass and also a new internet-based watering system that only waters when plants need water. Several years ago, the company switched out nearly all of our lights, both inside and outside the building, to LED - a big project but a big cost-savings measure. Bottom line is that SVM is both environmentally friendly company and a great company to work for.

Cons

Like most companies, SVM see fluctuations in the marketplace from time to time. So there can be up and downs. However, since SVM is a small company, we have been able to come together as a team to adapt and change with the market to stay profitable and successful no matter what the market conditions are.
