Pros

Any positive feedback given is based on my initial employment experience I had when I first joined in 2023.

Cons

My experience at Signal was defined by a significant disconnect between the leadership values that were regularly promoted and the behaviors that were actually demonstrated. The organization frequently spoke about servant leadership, employee development, trust, accountability, transparency, and culture. Unfortunately, those principles were not consistently reflected in the actions of many senior leaders. There appeared to be a culture where challenging leadership decisions was discouraged, and executive leaders often aligned behind decisions without meaningful discussion or dissent. What makes my experience particularly frustrating is that I entered the role as a high-performing employee. Throughout my tenure, I consistently received exceptional performance reviews, including perfect scores and feedback recognizing me as exceeding expectations. My final quarterly review included “above and beyond” remarks regarding my performance and contributions to the organization. At no point was I led to believe my work product, commitment, or results were lacking. Despite this, my professional growth and development gradually became an afterthought. The leader responsible for developing and supporting me appeared to stop investing in my success. Instead of receiving coaching and mentorship, I experienced constant scrutiny, excessive micromanagement, and a lack of trust in my professional judgment. Every decision felt subject to criticism, and I often felt set up to fail rather than supported to succeed. The workplace also lacked psychological safety. Public criticism and emotionally charged interactions became normalized. I experienced situations where I was publicly reprimanded in meetings with colleagues present, including my own direct report. On more than one occasion, discussions escalated to shouting and aggressive behavior that I believe no employee should experience from a leader. I also encountered comments questioning my maturity and life experience because I was not married and did not have children. As a mid-level professional, I found these remarks inappropriate, irrelevant to my job performance, and indicative of a broader lack of respect. The most disappointing aspect of my experience involved the circumstances surrounding my departure. I received direct assurances regarding my job security, only to be informed two days later that my position was being eliminated. Given my performance history and the positive feedback I had consistently received, the decision came as a complete shock. When my former position was later filled by my assistant months after my departure, it raised serious questions about the transparency and legitimacy of the rationale that had been provided. The final several months of my employment took a significant toll on my well-being. I frequently found myself carrying the stress of work home, and the environment became increasingly difficult to navigate. For someone who had previously been recognized as a high performer and a valued contributor, the contrast was both confusing and disheartening. Signal has talented employees and potential as an organization. However, meaningful change will require leadership to honestly evaluate whether its actions align with the values it promotes. Until there is greater accountability, psychological safety, and genuine investment in employee development, the culture will continue to fall short of the standards leadership publicly advocates.

Pros

It's a job; there are no pros other than quitting.

Cons

Low pay due to the ungodly high rate of royalty fees a franchise has to pay 9 and 11% of each contract. The territory debt each franchise owner incurs is crazy! The territory debt is anywhere from $1-6 million to be paid back at aproxemintly 10%. Each franchise owner has to renew their franchise agreement every 3 years. Signal puts franchise owners into serious debt. Franchise owners are forced to enter into contracts with strategic partners at no profit, all the while being told it will help pay off the debt sooner, as if that is a good thing. Because of this model, the guards suffer the most. Franchise owners can't increase pay for the people who show up and do the hard part of the job. No one will move up in the franchise model; someone has to quit for that to happen. DOn't let the "career opportunities" that are preached fool you. They mean nothing and are just there to make you feel like you're achieving something when, in reality, you're not. The training provided is a complete joke and is highly overrated. You will be treated as if you're important, but it's just abuse. Abuse that starts from the very, very top.
