Great Culture, Not Great For Internal Moves - Anonymous employee Shopify Employee Review

Thanks so much for taking the time to post a review. It is great to receive the feedback of those areas within Shopify which you as an employee appreciate (namely the people, culture, structure, pay & benefits). On the other hand, it is unfortunate to read that you do see issues with regard to diversity and internal movement here at Shopify as these are areas where the Talent team has been actively working to further drive improvement. In regard to diversity we are constantly looking to improve upon the tech industry averages though diversity hiring initiatives designed to provide all qualified applicants the opportunity to succeed within our recruitment process… and once hired, as you have highlighted, we already have amazing people and a company culture which supports the growth and celebrates the impact of every team member. On the topic of growth, the Shopify philosophy has always been to own your own development (OYOD) and seek out growth opportunities that best support you as an individual. Whilst the OYOD principle provides a solid foundation we are also actively identifying and promoting specific internal growth opportunities for employees to pursue should they be interested - so you are not really doing it all on your own!
