Retailer thought he was Richard Branson, didn’t care about his staff, regularly underpaid, deducted wages and expected you to work alone for 8 hour shifts. However, when Shell carried out inspections (which retailers were pre warned about) there would be 2 people on the shop floor, 2 on the tills and a manager present.
