It was a good experience, and I got some good training. - Geological Engineer Shell Employee Review

Pros

I enjoyed the training schools at BRC in Houston that I went through as a geological engineer. My initial experience with well-site petrophysics offshore in the Gulf was also very helpful and fun. The best part of the job, though, was being able to propose and drill a bunch of wells in a fairly short period of time. I never got tired of hitting oil.

Cons

I had an immediate boss who was very negative and was not a very good communicator. I also had an experience with carbon monoxide poisoning while logging a well that I feel wasn,t followed up on correctly.

Pros

Early career engineers are given significant ownership and exposure to complex operational challenges. Strong focus on safety, technical development, and collaboration across disciplines. Opportunities to work on high-impact projects, interact with senior leadership, and contribute to decisions affecting major assets and infrastructure.

Cons

Workloads can be demanding, and priorities can shift quickly based on operational needs. Decision-making processes can be slow due to organizational complexity, and geographic mobility may be necessary for certain career opportunities.
