The work environment was toxic, particularly for people of color, and felt rife with inequities.
From the start, I was not provided with proper training to perform my role effectively. Instead of receiving support or guidance, I was constantly micromanaged. Every minor detail of my work was scrutinized, creating an atmosphere of distrust and unnecessary pressure. This lack of autonomy made it difficult to grow professionally or build confidence in my role.
It became apparent that there was a pattern in how the company treated employees of color, particularly Black employees. I witnessed multiple instances where people of color were let go for not meeting performance expectations without being given the same second chances or developmental opportunities afforded to others. Meanwhile, employees who were not from minority backgrounds were given far more leniency and additional chances to improve when they struggled.
This double standard created a hostile environment where it was clear that not everyone was treated equally. The experience left me feeling undervalued, unsupported, and as though my potential contributions were being systematically overlooked.
For companies looking to improve, I hope they prioritize equitable training opportunities, avoid micromanagement, and actively address biases in how employees are supported and evaluated. No one should feel excluded or treated unfairly because of their background.
