My experience at Sense's Barnet location revealed disturbing truths about its management. Initially, the manager appeared compassionate, but over six months, his true character emerged. Despite presenting himself as empathetic, the manager displayed blatant discrimination when I disclosed my anxiety, suggesting I might not be suited for the job. This contrasted sharply with his leniency towards a favored team leader facing similar challenges, exposing clear favoritism and a toxic work environment. Furthermore, his passive-aggressive responses to staff advocacy for their rights were unprofessional. Canceling scheduled meetings under the guise of a "time out" when faced with staff concerns demonstrates immaturity and a lack of managerial responsibility. A manager's commitment to scheduled meetings is foundational to organisational cohesion and accountability. The manager's facade of professionalism is deeply misleading. He operates more like a manipulative salesman, masking incompetence with charm while neglecting the welfare of both staff and service users. His derogatory comments about colleagues and dismissive attitude towards legitimate concerns painted a grim picture of his leadership. At Barnet, Sense operates like a dysfunctional environment run by teenagers rather than mature professionals. The manager's erratic behavior undermines staff morale and detracts from the organization's ability to provide consistent and effective care. Despite these challenges, my time at Sense has taught me invaluable lessons in resilience and ethical leadership. I hope Sense addresses these issues urgently, for the sake of its mission and the well-being of everyone involved.
