Pros

The only positive that I can take out of my experience was that I was exposed to a variety of psychological measures .

Cons

This particular organization deals with individuals with very severe mental illnesses, and I do not think half the staff are qualified or even have the expertise to deal with such patients. I found it a little bizarre when they gave a bachelors level clinician so much responsibility in administering the scales when many of the scales require someone with at least a master's degree or as high as doctorate degree in psychology. So I'm sure they had to make up information on the rater experience surveys in order for this person to even be qualified to administer certain scales. That right there is a very big RED FLAG!!! Not only do they try to beef up some of the staff's level of experience to be able to rate on certain trials, but they will also try downplay the seriousness of certain subjects mental illness, as a means to have more people in their studies. Because honestly that is all they care about the numbers and not the individuals who are sacrificing their time in order to find ways to alleviate their current condition. It is not uncommon for a rater to be responsible for at least 20 studies, and then expect the rater to do all the prescreening, screening and required trainings for each of those studies. What is kind of interesting other clinical research companies do not have raters do the pre-screening process, because a rater's goal is ultimately to screen patients. To add insult to injury, Segal takes on studies that are almost impossible to find subjects for, but then they place blame on the rater for not recruiting enough subjects, and then they force raters to put subjects who clearly do not qualify for the study, to just keep that particular study open. I can go on and on of the many negatives of working at Segal. I was not aware of them when I first started, and I wish more people who previously worked here would share their experience, because I know I am not the only one who has gone through this. IF I saw more negative reviews then what is posted online then I probably would have never accepted the position. It has been a year since I worked at Segal and till this day I still get questioned whenever I get interviewed of how I liked my experience working at there (that's not a good thing to be asked that). During one interview I attended, I was told the following: "I refuse to hire anyone who has Segal Trials in their CV, they are known for being unethical, they do not treat their staff well and even less their patients." Since leaving Segal that has been my major challenge to have to constantly defend myself against the bad reputation that Segal has put out.
