Pros
- Easy way to gain great medical experience - Build relationships with physicians and other clinical staff, which can be helpful in future career aspirations - Fairly easy to get leadership positions, depending on turnover rate and size of your particular site - Flexible schedules, depending on your site (ER sites will typically have more flexible schedules but longer hours while outpatient sites will have less flexible schedules but shorter hours). - Management seems very approachable and encourages open communication (this could vary from site to site, however)
Cons
- The pay is not adequate for the quality of the work expected - There does not seem to be a way to vet physicians or other providers that want to hire scribes. Some scribes have awful experiences because their assigned providers mistreat them. - Turnover rate seems high, but I think this is mostly due to the fact that most employees are college students and are doing this only temporarily
