Pros
Excellent first step in starting in the mental health field. The supervisor in the adult outpatient dept. was wonderful and had a genuine interest in what his employees had to say and took our thoughts on changes that needed to be made into consideration (and sometimes implementation) regularly. The staff in the dept., excluding a select few, were highly supportive and were like a family when the rough days came around. After 6 months you become eligible to work "overtime" by going to the crisis dept. at the hospital which is a nice addition to your check.
Cons
The caseload for any therapist or doctor was heavily over saturated and expectations for paperwork/appointments was too high. Burnout has been an ongoing problem at SCC and therapists don't tend to stay for more than a year or two before they have to find something else. Pay was also not great; I shouldn't have been eligible for food stamps while working full time in my degree field. Upper management (above my dept. super) also treated employees poorly.
