Finding the right balance of management is tricky, especially for growing companies. It is important to be ready for growth when it happens, and we are trying to find the right balance without being caught on our heels. That said, there is an expectation that managers get in the trenches, too. We are watching and listening to make sure that ‘management’ serves to support our team members and be strong communicators for the vision of the company. We are emphasizing the significance of building domain expertise in our culture by developing non-management promotion paths for subject matter experts so our employees will have opportunities for advancement and growth without necessarily having to take on management responsibilities. We encourage our employees to become fantastic at their jobs and we seek opportunities to reward their depth and excellence.
We also acknowledge that transparency and alignment of vision, goals, and strategies can always be improved upon and that our success in the future depends on it. To that end, we have implemented a product management system that allows us to easily map every effort up to the strategic plan of the company. This tool allows anybody in the company to see what activities are going on and trace them up to our strategy. Also, in our last company meeting, the management shared a great deal of information about the business and management decisions with the team. Follow-up surveys about this meeting showed that more than 90% of employees felt the management was more transparent than in the past. We are constantly tweaking our business model and go to market strategy to reflect the changes in the business environment; we agree that making our team aware of these changes is very important.
