[be prepared to read] Management is petty and theres's tons of favoritism that goes on. You can work your butt off here and still will be put on a pedestal to be picked apart. Management is very manipulating. They all go to lunch with one another and are texting buddies, so it's their word over yours. They talk about you amongst themselves. You can get written up from tedious things. Heck, you might be written up and won't even be notified about it until the day they want to fire you. I've seen tons of great employee's go due to them not being treated fairly. There's a certain type of mold that you have to fit. They normally go for outgoing cute college kids. They also prey on people who have little to no experience in retail so that they can mold you and teach you the 'sabon way'..those were the exact words I've been told (as an assistant manager). They would take advantage of the fact that you know no better and manipulate you. IT'S JUST SOAP. Sometimes I feel like they're pimping these employee's by having them stand out in the rain, snow and blazing manhattan heat to give out little samples of glycerin soap. I get that it sparks interest and gets the people to come in, but is it worth the humiliation your employee's go through? (We had little baskets that we'd hold the soap in.) People thought we were beggars! Most of them even think the soap is chocolate. *Newsflash* New York is infested with creepy men who like to cat call and harass women. On more than one occasion I felt uncomfortable because of incidents that happened outside of the store with guys being inappropriate. You got training but you were also made to feel less deserving of your job if you mad any minor mistakes. My employee/sales associates's got paid $9/hr for their lives to be revolved around Sabon. The store manager I worked with would send annoying text blasts all day instead of noting things and addressing them in a store meeting. Super annoying for those who are off from work that day. It's to my understanding that all stores operated like that. In fact, the whole management squad would group text each other. For 7 months, I lived, ate, and breathed sabon. If you're the type of person who aims to please and work HARD like me, save yourself a trip and an interview. You talents will not be appreciated here. I'm not even exaggerating. Give it a few months lol. You'll soon start to realize how condescending and sneaky management can be. I did not know to the extent of how depressed I was working here. I made this company so much money and was treated unfairly. I would not recommend working here.
