You cannot have a life outside of work - Residential Coordinator SMASH (CA) Employee Review

Pros

Decent pay, usually you'll work with good and interesting people. Kids are phenomenal and I got to hire my own staff

Cons

You cannot have a life, you cannot be in a relationship, and you should probably get on drugs or develop a caffeine addiction to deal with not sleeping. Ever. Will fire if they do not like you, and VERY poor communication. Also, salary is in a weird contract and looks good on paper, unless you get all the extra work they assign you. Then the pay averages out to about $15/hour.

Pros

While I can't speak for all the sites, the instructors and staff got really close at mine and the community building & training gave us such a strong foundation to work off of. The class sizes are small and you are encouraged to build relationships with the scholars as well as give them lasting experiences that they can take with them long after the summer is over. I loved the premise, the work, the people, all of it. Smash is always seeking feedback to learn and improve and reminds students and staff that its okay to make mistakes. Excellent environment with strong POC

Cons

Its just a summer job. If I could teach for Smash full time, I certainly would.
