Pros
Employee discount is good - 50 - 30% off. Most of the coworkers are good people, friendly and trying to do their best.
Cons
Unless you are full time, expect 0 - 2 shifts a week, and watch them hire more people. The uniforms are old, worn and ill-fitting. The facility needs a total renovation - leaks in the roof, flickering overhead lights, broken PA system that only pages and doesn't play music anymore, weak HVAC (the stock rooms are meat lockers, but the sales floor is stuffy). The counter in the break room is collapsing due to water damage. Because of this, the faucet is loose and wonky. Yes, there is a health and safety committee. No, there is never actually any money to fix anything. The computer systems for the cashiers are mostly in French even though this store is located in Ontario. Many items ring up with the French item name, and the ENTIRE back end of the cash computers are in French. This means that you have to learn enough French to figure out how to process your EOD. There is no room for advancement, and cuts were just made to lower level managers. However, people from head office did not take a pay cut, and are still FLYING around Quebec and Ontario to inspect stores. The general manager likes to make jokes re-enforcing his position as the boss of the store, but does not actually do anything helpful besides make excuses for why nothing is being fixed or improved. Just pressure to make sales and go above and beyond for minimum wage.
