Pros

The people are absolutely amazing at that place and they really do become your friends. Everyone is very helpful. Xmas and summer party Staff days out maybe 2-3 times a year It's still a nice place to work

Cons

Salary is poor - especially if you're an editor and you carry the entire magazine You can get a promotion with more responsibility, but no extra money The sheer number of meetings No sick pay No training Lieu time is a joke High turnover of staff Managing director was the son of the owner and seems to be winging it When you leave an all staff email goes out saying the staff member will no longer be with the business (He may also include a reason as to why, which is a nice exiting gift to your former colleagues and friends) Location is in the middle of a field so you must have your own transport Office is next to a dairy farm, occasionally the office smells like manure (many times a month in fact)

Pros

Leaving, the sweet release of leaving

Cons

Office culture was sales led and often personality clashes became physical. Middle management would think nothing of sacking staff and then seizing their pipeline to earn money. Top earners were forced out and commissions became insanely hard to obtain. High pressure and risk of sacking made it almost impossible to take holiday - in my last year I took a week all year.

Pros

Well-meaning colleagues, some very talented. Mid to Senior-level salaries aren't bad for local firm.

Cons

Senior management is non-existent, and when they are involved it's only to take too long to make bad decisions. A family-run firm with zero family atmosphere or energy from CEO. Questionable behaviour from senior team - many staff complaints and high staff turnover.
