As a 3d artist, the process was stuck in the 90s. The pipeline understandably is based around the production of the 2-D sell animation, and the 3-D process is shoehorned into it in such a way as to make everything take 10 times longer than it would, if the process was designed to make the 3-D as simple as possible.
