Pros

- The incredible team at RoleModel makes my job more than just providing for my family- I enjoy every day I get to work here. The folks here are genuine, trustworthy, friendly, driven, fantastic people to be around. - Highly competent and transparent leadership. It is a huge pro for me to have the level of trust and relational currency with my supervisors that the RoleModel leadership team embodies. - Mentorship focus: I came in through the Academy training program at RoleModel and went from not knowing how to program to being a core contributor on full stack web applications in just a few years. The company is organized around developing its people and it does that exceedingly well. As a young man, I have received far more than professional mentorship as well, as RoleModel emphasizes mentorship in all areas of life. - Focus on company culture: In-person collaboration is highly valued, and although RoleModel is almost 50% remote, it is prioritized several times in the year to get the team together and build culture while innovating together + an annual company retreat. - Work life balance: RoleModel is oriented around causing you and your family to flourish. Flexible time off, profit sharing bonus, 401k, and an FSA account are some of the ways that gets expressed. You won't be required to work unreasonable hours, and if things come up in life, RoleModel will work with you. This company has seen great success over the last 3 years and I am excited to continue to grow with it!

Cons

- It could potentially be tricky to acclimate to the way RoleModel does development if you are a more senior developer from a different tech-philosophy background and don't go through the Craftsmanship Academy when you come in. - Team is pretty well aligned on culture & values and if you have different values you may not feel as aligned with the overall vision and direction of the company.

Pros

- Focussed on training, team unity and pair programming - If you get a dedicated mentor who gives you lots of time and is honest with you on where to grow, you can be very successful in becoming a talented software developer - Craftsmanship academy is a great intro to development.

Cons

- Low pay for juniors - Previous experience not valued - Value calculated on a standard set that doesn't include all work done as a developer - If your skillset is different than a typical full-stack (knows backend, knows decent front end, knows some design), your compensation is unlikely to be as high. - Entering the craftsmanship academy if you have already developed or gone to Comp Sci is 75% stuff you know, 25% you don't.
