Pros
My primary satisfaction in my position is derived from the people that I get to work with most often. The intelligence, empathy, and flexibility of co-workers in my corner of the org make the organizational shortcomings bearable.
Cons
Ria would really be an ideal MBA case study. Organizational and cultural inertia have resulted in a multitude of inefficiencies and frustrations in the modern business environment. Examples include: - A muddled and often conflicting vision of the business from executive management, leading to constantly shifting priorities, misaligned incentives, ambiguous long-term goals, and lack of corporate identity - A deeply-ingrained cultural bias to action over results and analysis leading to large amounts of low-impact work - Overcentralization resulting in needless exec review (and attendant delays) of what should be everyday decisions driven by guidance and goals - The combination of the above producing high levels of wheelspin on routine work and dead-ends projects that had previously been highest priority - Under-resourced, over-tasked, and isolated product development team leading to challenges in communication, prioritization, and analysis - Until very recently, a lack of organizational will to institute compensation and advancement practices to recruit and retain meaningful talent long-term. Career development, L&D, ERG, internal comms close to non-existent.
