Pros
• Generally good people in leadership • Good work/ life balance, if not in management won't get over worked • If business is doing well therre are perks like gifts and bonuses • There seems to be good loyalty to most tenured employees • Company gives to charities
Cons
• All major decisions made by "board" (aka 6 owners and they are all related) • Still feels like family business a lot of times although there are 300+ employees • Owners feel out of sync with front line/ low level employees that make up majority of company • HR department more about regulations then serving employees/ trying to understand needs • Chairty initiatives pushed heavily • Sadly, you'll probably feel like a fish out of water if you are not a Christian (I do not believe this is intentional, but owners are very forward with there faith and many hires are from they're churches or from one Christian college. I think this can make the culture feel a bit like a clique at times) • Not a lot of accountability at highest levels, though values are pushed down • Often tough to see a career path • Not a lot of freedom to perform/ go above and beyond, though many want to, so ambition gets quickly suffocated • Ownership seems to genuinely believe they run an exceptional company because of things like charity work but they are out of touch and a lot of top talent has left in the last couple years due to being discontent • Difficult to understand structure of exec team..... there are four Presidents and a CEO and COO (founders) who take a lot of time off and are not very acessible even when company is struggling • Owners tend to take things like criticism pretty personally and can be defensive (acting like a mom and pop business) instead of listening.... seems to be easy to get blacklisted, though I stayed in good graces • Just not sure that current executive team is equipped to lead company to next level..... company might have topped out in 2015 • Very slow to make changes (which is sometimes good, and probably better than exact opposite)
