Good place to start your career, but growth is quickly limited - Mechanical Engineer RTX Employee Review

Pros

Raytheon offers good job security, benefits, flexibility, and entry level opportunities. There are also interesting opportunities for international travel and assignments.

Cons

People tend to get stuck doing in the same role for many years and it is very difficult to change roles and get new experiences, which causes a lack of motivation. Bureaucracy makes it difficult to get even menial tasks done. The HR cycle and performance review process doesn't make any sense and your engineering "level' does not at all correspond to your actual role in the company (entry level engineers do the same tasks as senior and principal engineers). Training and development courses are almost non-existent.

Pros

I worked at Raytheon for over 4 years and had a great experience. The company provided many learning and growth opportunities. I was promoted twice during my tenure with the company, and my responsibility increased significantly. I felt like my management supported me and provided me with the career mentorship that I was seeking. I felt empowered and respected during my time there.

Cons

It can be difficult to work at such a large defense contractor company because of all the process and red tape. Things can move slowly, you have to be patient and pick your battles. That being said, if you learn how to work within the system, you can make a significant impact here!
