Pretty good place to work as a CPA - as far as CPA firms go - Anonymous employee RSM Employee Review

Pros

It's a firm that's big enough so you can learn a lot about either auditing or tax, but no so big that you're just a number. I would say that in comparison to the "big 4" accounting firms, people generally have a slightly lighter workload, which is nice. In addition, each office does fun things for its employees like sponsoring sporting leagues or paying for happy hours.

Cons

Like with any public accounting firm, work hours can be long when busy season hits. RSM suffers from some of the same problems that plague public accounting in general: a grueling work schedule, an uptight corporate culture, and a problem with work/life balance. I think maybe RSM is a little better at some of these issues than other CPA firms but it still has a long way to go.

Pros

If you are in the right team, with good seniors and good managers you will have a good time with the work. Hybrid was a very nice touch, they were pretty good about allowing you your two days at home if you wanted them. Benefits were decent

Cons

Very, very team dependent. A ton of seniors seriously don't want to teach at all. I remember coming up, and even after I was a senior, listening to people complain so much that they got a first year, and they did not want to teach them or didn't have time to. Its a huge popularity contest on if you get good jobs or not. Partners will make you work the most crap jobs and keep all the good jobs for their favorites. They use and abuse people so often. Got laid off 1 day after the busy season.
