Pros
Paid every two weeks, on time.
Cons
Working at Rex was the worst professional decision I have ever made. The business model of "disrupting the industry" does NOT work and when clients pick up on the lie Rex sells, they turn into a nightmare (rightfully so). I felt that I was doing a disservice to sellers when they listed their home with Rex off of the MLS, especially during such a hot market with no offers or showings. Rex management knows they need the MLS to survive and ended up implementing the MLS into their process just to stay afloat. The internal side of Rex is even worse than the consumer facing side. When I was first hired at Rex I made sure that my job was strictly from home and I would be meeting with clients remotely 100% of the time. Real Estate is never a 9-5 and I understood that, but was promised that I would always be remote and could work from anywhere. This was all a part of their "new" business model. About 4-6 weeks after I started, Rex decided to save money on payroll and eliminate the Associate Agents that hosted open houses, photo shoots, showings, etc. Now that Associate Agents were non-existent, this meant that the full time employees had to pick up the slack with 0 additional compensation. More work, same pay, different job description out of the blue. This was promised to be short term yet ended up being permanent. The job I once agreed to was no more. During Covid the market really picked up and the local team became overworked to a point where additional team members were required. After months of asking for assistance, no one was ever hired. We were told our market had low activity and we did not need help. I never could quite understand how working 70 hour weeks meant we were not "busy enough". Quality of life is devastatingly bad, and "work life balance" is not even in their vocabulary. Upper management is full of high volume sales professionals who have no experience in real estate. Goals were based off of historic numbers, and everyone with true experience knows there is much more to real estate sales than a quarterly chart. Management has no idea what goes into one transaction and did not care to see it. Right around the holidays in 2020 Rex decided to roll out their brand new business model, which seemed to happen annually in my experience. The new process changed ALL current agent roles in the company without any warning or consultation. The rollout took place over the course of a one week training (which was about 2-3 weeks too short in my opinion) and left the agents with double the work and lots of confusion. The new model hurts employees to the point that agents are quitting left and right. Management uses and abuses agents until they have no other option but to leave. Agents are expendable in upper management's eyes and they have no consideration for work life balance, personal lives outside of work, family tragedies, taking time to relax and reboot, etc. You are expected to work when you are in the middle of a funeral, doctor's appointment, surgery, PTO, you name it you will be working. It speaks volumes to the company as a whole when employees are treated so poorly. After putting in my two weeks with my dedicated manager, I expected to have a follow up call or exit conversation. I never once heard from my manager before leaving Rex, which goes to show the lack of management skills. Do yourself a favor and do not waste your time working at Rex.
