Pros
Great location to work (pinewood studios) Pay was reasonable (relative to stress level) Innovative (in some ways) product, although had a lot of issues.
Cons
Most of the staff there worked for ARRI previously and all knew each other and were luvvies from the film industry, you really did have to have a face that fits there. For some strange reason and despite 20+ years in electronics they would not allow me to work on the new equipment, the nice clean equipment was left for "the boys" This was clear as one of them had little experience (but got the nice new equipment to work on) and had to ask me a lot of tech questions ( i could and should have been working on them by rights) After 11 months of being there i was asked if i wanted to to California for a training course, i said yes when? They said in 7 days time, i said i would love to go but i would need to get a passport. I got a sort of funny look then asked how long will that take? I said i don't know off the top of my head i will find out, left it at that. Next day just before lunch my boss came up to my desk and said their isn't any more work for you and just went and sat back at his desk, literally nothing else?? i was never officially fired, sacked, made redundant not anything! Shortly after this i got a letter from red offering £1000 pounds if i waived certain employee rights. I took this to a solicitor and they said this was laughable. Clearly as i had been there almost a year i couldn't have been doing much wrong and not fitting in with their business plan and immediately being able to go abroad, which was never in the job description anyway! That aside their is no structured system (or room) for advancement, except dead mans boots . Very low on any sort of structure, rules etc and employee care.
