Cons
My time working in the Security & Property department was marked by a multitude of challenges that made it difficult to perform my duties effectively. The managerial team displayed a concerning level of incompetence, which significantly hindered the department's ability to function smoothly. Not only were the managers ill-equipped to handle their responsibilities, but their lack of leadership skills created a chaotic and unproductive work environment.Their presence not only fails to contribute positively but also actively contributes to the decline of the department. Furthermore, the SLT members and a few mangers exhibited bullying behavior, creating a culture of fear and intimidation among the staff. This toxic atmosphere made it nearly impossible to collaborate and communicate effectively within the team. The impact of such behavior on employee and contractors morale and job satisfaction cannot be overstated. Moreover, the staff within the department were poorly managed, leading to widespread discontent and frustration. Without clear direction and support from leadership, employees struggled to meet expectations and perform at their best. The absence of a coherent strategy and established processes only added to the confusion and inefficiency within the department. Adding to these challenges was the complete lack of resolution of issues among team members and contractors incompetence. The inability to address conflicts and find common ground hindered progress and perpetuated a culture of discord and inefficiency. Moreover, many long-standing staff members, who had been with the organisation for over 20 years, seemed extremely stuck in their dated ways. Their resistance to change and reluctance to embrace new processes further impeded the department's ability to evolve and adapt to current needs. To make matters worse, the SLT management team seemed totally clueless on the instructions and direction of their leadership, managements willingness to throw their own team members under the bus at any opportunity demonstrated a complete lack of integrity and loyalty, eroding trust and confidence in their leadership and management a complete mess. It's apparent that the managers/SLT lack the drive to move the department forward and struggle to identify crucial legal and compliance issues. While a few team members are actively addressing these concerns, many seem content with taking the easy route, spending most of the days in pointless meetings, neglecting their important duties. This overall lack of leadership not only hinders progress but also fails to convey the ground realities effectively to senior management. Additionally, the department lacks a clear strategy or consistent management approach, which results in a reactive 'firefighting' mentality instead of proactive planning. The deficiency in managerial and leadership competencies among the managers is striking. Their inability to effectively lead a team, particularly those tasked with managing other managers, is concerning. The lack of essential management and leadership skills is alarming, creating a worrisome environment where clear guidance and direction are notably absent. What was perhaps most disheartening was the apparent disinterest shown by senior leaders and HR's in investigating what is actually happening on the ground and addressing these critical issues. Their lack of involvement and failure to provide guidance further exacerbated the existing challenges, leaving employees feeling unsupported and undervalued. Overall, my experience in the Security & Property department was marred by incompetence, toxicity, discrimination and a severe lack of effective management. It is my hope that these issues are addressed promptly and comprehensively to create a healthier and more productive work environment for thise few employees who are an asset to Quilter.
