Pros

Friendly environment. Supportive managers.Leadership team cares about the company and community. There are team building events, lunches and opportunities for your voice to be heard.

Cons

Everything required manual entry & management of projects & calendars. This means there are none of these: PM tools, Google docs, CRM, DAM, mileage tracking app, Google docs, shared calendars, or office chat communication tools.

Pros

Really great experience that helped me advance my journalism career/education. Got many great clips, learned a lot, lots of flexibility, enjoyed working in-person, supportive editors and colleagues.

Cons

There is not a lot of guidance if you don't seek it out.

Cons

Owner/publisher is a horrible manager - spacey, disorganized, totally unwilling to admit when he's made a mistake. He micromanages everyone's work and criticizes everything he possibly can about it, but praise is very rare unless he can take credit for it. He is very passive-aggressive and will act friendly to your face while talking very negatively and disparagingly about you behind your back - and since it is a small office, word gets around fast. Newspaper jobs in this area are hard to find and very competitive, which he exploits to underpay employees and refuse to work to making the work environment less toxic - he knows how hard it is to find a better job without moving across the country. I would really think long and hard about taking a job here.
