Pros
When I started with Powerhouse, it was an absolute joy to work for them. There was a very engaged training and the team I was on was very good. Once there were changes in management, things began to take a turn however still a decent company. This place does have its cliques and if you’re not in the popular crowd you are treated differently, and the expectation can pile up on you.
Cons
My biggest take away is my experience being a person of color, working for this company. I won’t say it was all racist, even though there are quite a few experiences, however as a person of color I was treated differently. More reports than others in my position, flagged for things that other people were doing regularly asked to stay later than other etc.… Other team members even noticed it. There was even a language issue with how some people would speak with or around you. I never thought I would have to sit and hear the term “colored” used to describe a black person, but it happened at a company outing. Other people of color have worse stories than I do. Even when you brought it to people’s attention it was swept away as if it did not happen or explained that you were too “emotional” to see what’s actually happening. I witnessed other people of color go through the same process to no result. But if you’re white then you will do just great at Powerhouse. They all are not bad, there are some amazing people at Powerhouse and the owners stopping in from time to time was always pretty cool. I learned a lot from my experience and was able to connect with some great individuals that will always be my friends in life. Based solely off my own experience being a person of color I would not recommend this company to everyone.
