Pros
Podia is the best company I have ever worked for (and possibly ever will)! Podia is a perfect example of a remote company done right. Spencer (CEO) and the leadership team have put a lot of care into crafting great company culture, putting together an amazing team, and building a great product. Everyone from the support team to marketing truly cares about the success of the customers/creators. This is very evident when customers rave about Podia's amazing support team, the content, videos, and blogs, and how thoughtfully the product has evolved over time. 🤩 Everyone on the team is amazingly talented and people I still look up to to this day. From day one, the entire team was very supportive during onboarding and gave me lots of ideas and feedback when I was taking on my first few projects. I was surprised by how available everyone was, including the CTO, to get on a call to help me plan, brainstorm, and walk me through every little detail of an implementation. Everyone on the team is super approachable, humble, and cares about the growth and success of every team member. Podia helped me catapult my career in ways no company could have by giving me ownership of projects in the early days and allowing me to lead large projects. My manager and team helped me take on larger projects (than I thought I was capable of) and helped me build confidence as a developer. I also enjoyed virtually pairing on hard problems with project leads and team members, which also added to the fun of working at a remote company. The CTO has done a great job of instilling transparency, humility, supportiveness, and trust in the product team. Unlike other companies I worked at, even monthly one-on-ones with my manager were a highlight and something I looked forward to every month. Along with great pre-planned questions and feedback, we would get to discuss recent articles we came across and talk about activities and personal projects we were working on. To top it all off, I was given the most thoughtful written document with my yearly accomplishments and great actionable feedback by my manager at every end-of-year evaluation. 🥰 Compensation is at the top end of the US market and is not adjusted or lowered when relocating anywhere in the world, which is very rare to see today. Podia is the only company I have worked for that has a truly transparent compensation policy with generous annual and promotion-based pay increases. The benefits are amazing, even for non-US team members. This includes a generous quarterly health and wellness stipend, generous vacation and sick days, paid sabbatical after 3 years, a high-end laptop, and virtual team dinners to name a few. After having worked at other larger startups and a Fortune 500 company, Podia is a breath of fresh air. 😌
Cons
Personally, I can’t think of any downsides to working at Podia. With that being said, here are a few things to consider if you are applying or considering accepting an offer at Podia: 1. Podia was the first truly remote company I worked for. Although the team made it easy for me to transition, remote work can be challenging especially for team members early on in their careers. 2. Being part of a small team, there is minimal process or structure in place by design. Although this is the environment I personally thrive in, this may not be for everyone. If you are looking for a place with more structure and middle management, then Podia might not be the right fit for you. 3. Although very rare, sometimes decisions around projects are made fairly quickly and projects may get deprioritized. However, the leadership team does a great job of communicating these with the rest of the team in a timely fashion. If you thrive in this environment, you are going to love working at Podia! 😍
