Pros

My line manager and the manager above them were both great. No micromanaging and very understanding.

Cons

I was hired with an offer that included unlimited holiday. This was a company wide policy. A few months back they took this away overnight and replaced it with 32 days a year. Some people were already over their allowance for the year so far and couldn't book any time off until they accrued more. They did this without consultation or any valid justification. I assumed my contract would protect me from the change but I forgot that they had actually had me sign a new contract a few months earlier saying it was just about aligning notice periods, but they actually snuck in a change to statutory PTO entitlement only. Next they brought in time tracking for projects which we were told had nothing to do with tracking our individual productivity and we didn't need to worry about tracking 40 hours a week. One month later and we have to track 40 hours a week religiously, even logging time for holidays. Everyone told them time tracking is a waste of time because no one does it accurately anyway. It still got pushed through even though everyone outside of the finance team protested. I got a better offer elsewhere. Tomorrow is my last day. I heard that others who left had had their final pay delayed by up to 3 months. I checked with HR to see when I will be paid. They said not until they receive equipment back (I work remote). For context, tomorrow is the day my pay is due (last day of the month) and by UK law final salary should be paid on the normal day and not delayed. They are also in control of when my equipment is returned as they are arranging a courier and want me to work up to the end of the day. I told them this was potentially unlawful and they insisted it was their policy. I was also owed holiday but they cut this down to nothing by: - saying my actual allowance was the statutory 28 days in my contract and the 32 days was just an internal policy - saying that I should have been taking public holidays off so counting them as holidays even though I was working and it was never communicated that they had to be taken Basically the entire philosophy of the company switched overnight from being very focused on keeping employees happy to treating us as replaceable commodities. The quality of the games took a nose dive as morale fell overnight. No one has a nice word to say about the company anymore. If you want to work somewhere where you feel remotely valued, avoid Playnetic at all costs. If you are determined to work here, insist on an employment contract. Contractors who leave have to prove they did adequate work during their notice period to get paid at all, and even then with huge delays. Pay is also poor for the industry. After making these changes they promised good things were coming and they finally came in the form of £100 gifts to recognise life events such getting married or having kids. No regard given to how discriminatory this is. Also when I first joined my personal phone number and email address were made public to the whole company without my knowledge or agreement and when I raised it as a safety concern I was brushed off. (They have a new HR system now so this was accidentally resolved.)

Pros

Working with some very talented and friendly employees.

Cons

I left a corporate job of 8 years to join Playnetic. Within 3 months of joining, I was up for retrechment. Luckily my boss stepped in and I was kept on a half day basis, still a 50% drop in salary so not cool. Then about 6 weeks later, they retrenched me and whole bunch of other people. It's extremely bad management to hire staff who let go solid jobs only to let them go within months! Where is your budgeting and forecasting??? They will hire and get rid of you without a care in the world. Management has no idea how to run a company and are heartless at impacting peoples lives in such a bad way. The final insult is then having to wait and wait for them to decide to pay you in the end. So, not only do you get retrenched and you are without an income, they money due to you doesn't get paid on time. I eventually sort legal action. Unless you are a trust fund baby who has not a financial care in the world, stay clear of this company. They are heartless, untrustworthy and incompetent people.
