Pros

Decent pay. The owners are generally upbeat and excited about their work to begin with.

Cons

They are not clear when relaying information to you. They tell you one thing, then just let you go, expecting you to read their minds. I am a photographer. I know what i'm doing and my work reflects that. I was expected to hand over raw image files...unedited files...they judged my work from that. They did not pay me for time I took out of my day for "training", in which they sent me out to take photos for them (with them hovering over my shoulder). I have a degree in this field and a great portfolio to show for it. I don't need training. Not to mention, they didn't even have me sign a contract with them stating that whatever images I took for them, belong to them. Not until after I had already shot a couple assignments for them did they have me sign anything. I was basically working off of contract, which is not okay. They did not show me any way of documenting hours worked for them, so I basically had to go off of their word and hope that they paid me however many hours I worked. One of the owners basically used me as a taxi service, I had to drive him around town to complete his errands. I was handed cash, which is fine...but that's not what I signed up for. It was a gross misuse of my time and my skills as a photographer. I quit after 2 weeks. Not to mention, I have heard nothing but negative things from the customer's perspective as well. The photographer (Eddie, owner) sending other photographers to complete jobs for him, in which he stated he'd be the main photographer. I have seen him grossly overcharge people for services they knew nothing about. For instance, a customer wanted some portraits taken of herself and wanted some black and white photos. He outright stated that'd be easy and charged her a large fee for simply going into photoshop and applying a FILTER. Took him all of 2 seconds and he charged her PER PHOTO. He didn't even take the time to personalize the image. In another instance, he charged bought a frame off of a guy for about $20 that was worth well over $100. He gave me $10 to disassemble the frame to remove the artwork. That was the last day I worked for him. I will not work for someone who takes advantage of customers like that.

Pixel Studio Productions Response

I would like to start this response by stating you are not a photographer. Taking photography classes and buying a camera doesn’t make you one. If you were then you wouldn’t be working as a framer at Michael’s getting paid $9 an hour. We gave you a chance by bringing you on to our team to learn from other professionals. You approached every photo shoot with a bad attitude and refused to take direction. We have a certain style to our product which you didn’t want to learn. As for "looking over your shoulder" while you were on an assignment; that was because you were not following any instructions. Simple instructions like using the flash, going up to people at events and taking their picture, and acting professionally were not followed. You were paid $20 an hour during training. The gigs I sent you to were free therefore I lost money by paying you but I didn’t mind because I wanted you to become a better photographer. No one forced you to drive the owner around, you agreed to do it and were paid for it right then and there. You purposely did not take any of the shots you were instructed to and even stated that you didn’t. You expected us to mail you the check when you actually worked next door at Michael’s. It is not your concern what we charge our clients, we have standardized pricing and we charge the same amount that others in our field charge. We gave you a great opportunity to work with talented photographers and learn from us and you chose not to learn. You also mentioned that I simply fixed a photo by adding a filter which is the same as complaining about a mechanic who replaces a part in your car in a few minutes. It’s skill that you pay for, not the time spent.
