Pros

Friendly colleagues with decent tools including relatively up-to-date hardware and premium software tools. Competitive entry and mid-level salaries. You can make what you want out of your role.

Cons

Cons aren't Piper's fault, it's the business. I'm not going to list the cons of Wall Street here. I've read and heard people say "Minnesotta Nice, Minnesotta Ice." And there's truth there. I've seen more than a handfull of people get screwed and I've watched juniors get strung out to dry like a pair of cheap undies. But welcome to finance...half of those folks deserved it. I do think the gripes you will have here will largely be the same as the issues you'll have at other banks, both big and small. So maybe some introspective soul-searching is in order for the folks who are super negative on this firm.

Pros

It's nearly impossible to get fired. After many years, the IT department has hired a diverse team. Coworkers were intelligent and ethical.

Cons

Unusual that, until after Covid, the IT department was about 95% Caucasian, but now the diversity seems to be due to the ability to lower salaries, and worsen work/life balance. Management will only promote yes-people, or hire from the outside. It's akin to working in IT in 1990s, there is little process or structure. Laptops weren't given to IT until after Covid (yes you read that right), and when they were handed out, they were the used laptops from revenue generating departments that had been upgraded. It was a very chaotic environment.
