Pros
You receive a 2% bonus check in February as well as a 3% raise (unless you've done very very poorly, which I've never heard of a case of). In this day and age a bonus "just because" to ALL employees and not based on meeting any incentives is phenomenal. They recently froze the pension plan and while it may be a con for employees who have been with the company long enough and early enough to have received the pension (and are still guaranteed the funds) receive 6% of their gross earned salary as a quarterly bonus payment into their 401k, regardless of whether or not they are currently deferring any money into it. For employees hired after the pension was frozen (unsure if an employee has to be employed for a minimum length of time) it is a 3% gross bonus which is still something and more than employees hired after the pension was no longer offered were getting before this recent program. Even if you aren't deferring any income into your 401k they set one up to put this money in for you. The company pays overtime if needed, which it often is, especially on the delivery and selecting side. This is a con if you consider how often you can and are kept at work past when you would like to be home with your family. Salaried employees receive a flex day for working holidays.Every year for as long as anyone can remember, the company gives each employee (there are over 900 throughout New England) a gift card of their choice to Walmart, Hannaford or Shaw's. Jobs are posted frequently and offer advancement and relocation due to the 6+ states the company has locations in. Superb medical/dental benefits. 401k match of 25 cents on the dollar for the first 6% deferred.
Cons
While all of the pros are great, the company is cutting costs anywhere it can see them. This means they are cutting funding for supplies and buying a lot of sub par items, but aren't looking at places where money is wasted daily and is brought up frequently but nothing is done about it. Reimbursement requests for required trips are denied payment after the employee has paid for them unless they hound accounts payable. No paid sick or personal time, so if you are sick you are encouraged to stay home and lose pay and are not allowed to use vacation days last minute due to illness. They do have STD and LTD of course, but for run of the mill sickness you are not covered. Certain employees (drivers especially) aren't permitted to take vacation days, but are told they must take 5 days in a row, while most employees can get approval for using their vacation days as they see fit.
