Pros

Mid-Level Mgt are down to earth; approachable. If they have time, they will try to help with problems that need to be escalated. VP is very knowledgeable about the business; is invested in Pilot's immediate success. Basic medical plan, 10 days vacation to start. There are a few work heroes who keep the operation afloat; most of them are very nice people. Never had any problem with any employees.

Cons

Virtually no opportunity for upward mobility. In my experience they always hired mid level management externally rather than promoted internally. No annual reviews (which means no annual pay raises). People working for 5+ years may have had only one small pay raise. This doesnt stop them from giving you extra responsibilities though. They keep staffing at a minimum (not always willingly), around 100% annual turnover for entry level employees. Mgt consistently punches above belt and results in too much work for too little staff. The marketing team is non-existent; sales has trouble getting foot in door since no one knows who Pilot is. Success is simply based on profit margin percentage per order; requires employees to source from the lowest priced carrier. Since they are too small to be a cost leader (Despite their claim that they have the best price on a certain LTL weight range ((spoiler: they're not)), their strategy relies good service, which is frankly poor when using the lowest common denominator. They rely too much on their half dozen veteren employees to: Train the new staff (which is constant), make up the work lost when someone quits/is fired, create SOP's (which are usually outdated/ inefficient), do the bulk of the daily work. VP is completely unapproachable, petty and very hard to work with. He has little interest in his staff and delegates the responsibility to mid-level mgt (which regularly puts in 12+ hours/ day, 6 days/ week). No outlined vision or strategy for company.

Good teamwork, everyone helps everyone. The schedule was what I needed and never had any issues with it

Direct team was great to work with.

Cons

After merger with Maersk, the management was no longer focused on the issues at hand, rather they were focused on countless meetings going over the same information. They lacked hands on availability and required employees to maintain a level of performance with lack of fellow employees assistance. One person would leave and that role would be absorbed into another's. Management also has a tremendous amount of redundancy which impacted the employees and led to a lot of layoffs. Management not receptive to feedback, even if it was sound. HR department is also useless and should be divereted to the main offices, as the onsite one was more focused on gossip and superiority. Many departments outsourced to other countries, and lied during layoff process. The company is worth billions with higher ups making millions with bonuses, but the line level employees (who did the hardest work) were let go or vastly underpaid.
