Pros

To be as transparent as possible, I was a bit skeptical but this was based on my experience with a previous employer. It had nothing to do with Phoenix TS. To say the least I was pleasantly surprised with PTS. It’s a different culture here and one that I think a lot of other employers could learn from. We’re very team oriented around here. The experience that I have had to this point is that when one team member at Phoenix TS succeeds, we all do. Most of my experience in sales has been remotely. I’ve not had that much experience with working in an office environment but the moment I walked through the doors my first week at PTS everyone made me feel very welcome. One of the first things I noticed as I met everyone here was the high regard they had for the owners of Phoenix TS. This was very important to me. Even more noteworthy was the fact that I didn’t need to solicit feedback from any of my team members on them as time after time I was told: “You’re really going to love it here” or “You’ve made the right decision”. “Both Firoozeh and Ben are incredible people to work with. They really care about their employees”. All of that is absolutely true. PTS team members have lunches together. They send out emails for special events that are not necessarily work related to celebrate achievements of team members and offer support. They take time to celebrate employee birthdays. I was actually brought in on a conference call with other employees who were celebrating birthdays in February just so everyone on our team could sing and wish myself other coworkers that same month a happy birthday. Absolutely a first for me. All of this also translates well toward providing excellent customer service, which in addition to a healthy work environment is also very important to me. Not all businesses are like that. So, in addition to happy employees, I also see happy customers. As someone who has a heavy background in management and customer service, I absolutely love that and even more exciting is the fact that I’m excited to sell again. I just can’t say enough about this place, the customers or the people that I work with.

Cons

I work remotely for PTS. So while I do have contact with most of my team members on a daily basis via phone and email, it's not the same as working in an actual office atmosphere. That and the break room has bagels every day and fresh baked cookies at 2 in the afternoon.

Thank you so much for your wonderful comments. Ever since we started Phoenix TS more than twenty years ago, Firoozeh and I have tried hard to maintain a close knit family atmosphere and a collaborative culture. I'm sorry you're missing out on working closely with your colleagues on a daily basis because you are remote, but I hope our quarterly meetings at our headquarters, when you get to travel to Columbia, MD and spend real time with the rest of us, allow you quality time to be present and reconnect with us. Being a modern growing company, we don't want to limit ourselves to only Maryland-based employees and you are such a great addition. Thanks again for all your had work and dedication. Ben

Wow! Thank you for your quick review. It is very nice to read your words although I think we can always improve and we are constantly striving to create an ever stronger culture of transparency and an ever more motivating environment. Although sometimes small companies can seem too personal because of their family atmosphere, we believe this allows us to work through our work issues more quickly and ultimately increase productivity in a wholesome and natural way. We are very proud that our employees are not just numbers working in a huge warehouse, but feel part of a small (but growing) team whose members are highly motivated to work together to reach our common goals.

Pros

There was remote work for some positions. Hybrid for all others. Minimum a week off between Christmas and New Years. They do tend to promote from within.

Cons

The reviews about discrimination are correct. The company says one of its core values is diversity and inclusion but that is false. Anti-black racism ran rampant in the company from people at all levels. When I was there only 1 manager listened to feedback when you called them out on their micro-aggressions and would not tolerate discrimination of any kind. He was not in a position to stop discrimination though. The CEO and President would both make disparaging remarks about the people they hire and contracted. CEO would complain about how expensive labor is and we were paid under the current market rate for our positions. You will not get a raise while working there. They will be promised when they win a big contract but it never comes through. There are not cost of living adjustments either. People were constantly working overtime and it was seen as a badge of honor. Work life balance was a joke for many people at the company. Working sick was required whether you had Covid, the flu, etc. There were only 3 weeks of PTO a year. Micromanaging started from the top down. Managers were not given the training or freedom they needed to run their departments effectively. They are micromanaged and in turn micromanaged their teams. At least a personal goal for me- I learned the importance of having an inclusive work environment because we had none. Letting discrimination run rampant was the most disgusting thing I witnessed. I have exclusively talked about race but discrimination in all its forms ran rampant. Even when I reported discrimination I experienced, the outside HR rep and company did not take it seriously. I learned after I left that no one was ever reprimanded for it. So this place did make me a better advocate for workers at the expensive of my health. Silver lining I guess.
