Pros

- Decent work/life balance for a startup, with relaxed office environments, standard benefits for full-time employees & unlimited PTO. - Flexibility to work on multiple projects that keep day-to-day interesting. - A good chance to explore an average startup environment, experience its highs & lows, and test whether tech culture is to your liking - I was lucky to be on a team led by a thoughtful, organized & approachable manager who took time to listen & work together on developing meaningful projects for me. - A unique platform with a solid fan base of users who are excited to grow with it.

Cons

- Lack of alignment between teams, which leads to lack of efficiency on projects, inability to effectively achieve goals, and slow implementation of change - A unique product but poorly targeted & managed. Users are eager and employees are also eager about its growth potential, but current leadership does not seem to make decisions based on innovating an amazing product or community the way it touts. Creative & effective projects are limited because leadership values quantitative results rather than quality of their decisions, quality of product experience, or maintaining positive company morale. - Poor structure: which consistently granted undeserving managers too much leeway to make decisions and created friction between teams - No solid HR program or reviews: employees dissatisfied with management and not being heard, valued, or appropriately placed are not granted a productive or comfortable means to seriously address concerns. - The company is a classic example of a tech startup with plenty of potential but little heart and poor structure bringing it down. It tastes simply of execs who aim to cash in when bought out and care little for the development of its employees, fostering a healthy/strong company culture, or being outstanding. The company's brand values don't match their actions.

Peerspace Response

Thanks for the feedback. It was a difficult decision to layoff good people like yourself. It was an unfortunate byproduct of being a startup. As you say, there is no lack of passion amongst employees and the community about Peerspace and how it is changing the meetings and events space. The key is to pair this passion with good business fundamentals as that is the only way for Peerspace to endure and reach its full potential. One is not a replacement for the other. We have a lot of amazing things going for us (like our awesome team!) but we are far from perfect. You touched on points that I care a lot about: transparency, listening to customers, identifying and addressing our organizational strengths/weaknesses and empowering our employees. I believe we are doing well here but there is always room for improvement. I wish you luck in your next adventure. -- Eric Shoup, CEO Peerspace

Pros

Remote work flexibility, occasional DoorDash gift cards.

Cons

Lack of a feedback culture and virtually no employee development. Feedback from my manager was generally positive but vague, with no actionable guidance, inconsistent expectations, and poor communication regarding performance concerns. I was consistently told I was "on the right track" during 1:1's, yet I received a "Needs Adjustment" performance review despite having no meaningful coaching or documented development plan, and was terminated a few weeks later. Ultimately, leaving was a positive outcome: this was the worst job I've had in two decades of working.
