Pros
Decent hourly rate with lots of opportunities for overtime. Can make over 100k a year if you’re on jobs with lots of overtime. Good healthcare and retirement benefits.
Cons
Zero accountability from upper management all the way down to the unionized workforce. Management constantly tries to blame workforce when things go wrong. Safety rules in effect are more to release the company from liability than they are to protect the workers. You have to work a lot of nights/weekends/holidays. Upper management/the owner pretty much never reinvests money back into the company and would rather rely on getting bailed out by other companies like NS, Amtrak, or by grants from the government.
