Good Place to Work, Great People - Project Manager POWER Engineers Employee Review

Pros

The best reason to work at POWER is you get to work alongside some great and very competent people. You get to work on some interesting projects and work with a high degree of autonomy as a PM, provided you deliver your projects on time and on budget.

Cons

Staffing constraints on projects goes through highs and lows, as in most engineering consulting firms so sometimes, if you are working on a project which is not high profile during a time when business is good and resources tight, you are begging for resources to be applied for your project, while managing client expectations. Management seems risk averse to hiring people to manage these times or not able to forecast needs. So you learn to solve these problems in unique ways on your own. Once you learn how to do that, no worries. But it doesn't come without its stresses and frustration.

Pros

Was a genuinely great place to work. Great people and great culture. It was worth the slightly-lower-than-average pay because work life balance and benefits were great. I enjoyed going to work every day.

Cons

Poor financial decisions from upper management regarding the shareholder program led to the company's demise. Upper management sold out to WSP. Management made millions while long time employees got zilch. As someone else had mentioned, retention bonuses were unfairly distributed. Most people didn't get any retention bonus even if they had been long time employees of the company. It really felt like everyone who wasn't upper management got stabbed in the back. They got their payout then dumped the company. Still stings to this day.
