Good Food, Good Management - Hostess Outback Steakhouse Employee Review

Pros

Overall company emphasizes education, family, and team work. Excellent higher management, to include those in each individual restaurant. There are great benefits monetarily, health-wise(insurance) that come along with working there. Ah yes and who could forget the slang?!? Though not used for every customer encounter, the Aussie lingo is fun to learn!

Cons

Lack of organized training for new positions. However, my experience may be isolated? When I first started, instead of having me quickly learn the "ropes," I was often sent away to roll silverware - for hours on end. Most times when I asked lower management to have one of the, often three(3) hostess up front train me, I was ignored. Eventually I would be brought up front for a few minutes to organize crayons for young customers and hold a door before being sent right back.

Pros

The store level can be a really rewarding experience, I come to work and genuinely enjoy my job and coworkers.

Cons

Hovering corporate can be a headache. You don't have a say on which location you are sent to after training just a consideration of your location and commute. The bonus system is lacking with metrics that are hard to obtain and only quarterly. Raises are hardly cost of living wages and seniority isnt rewarded as new managers typically come in making as much if not more than senior managers.
