Pros
I have worked at Oundle School for the best part of 15 years as a Domestic Operative and have enjoyed it very much. There is a 'family feel' to the place and a feeling of pride in a job well done at the end of each day. There are lots of 'families' that work here; Mums and daughters, brothers and brothers -in- laws, Uncles, Aunties. This in itself must tell you about how loyal the staff are here, one Domestic retired not so long ago, who had been working at the School for 50 years!! Staff are very loyal to the House that they work in, but do have the opportunity to move around and work in other locations on the School Campus. There is a great deal of support if you should need it. I have been through some difficult periods in my life and they have been there every step of the way, and I don't think I could have got through without the support of my colleagues and my managers. You get out of it what you put in after all! Yes it is hard work, it's cleaning at the end of the day, and you are dealing with the day to day detritus of teenagers, and those who have them understand what this is like! But what a location! Such beautiful old buildings with a rich history attached to every one of them You get to work in this stunning environment, and discovers all the nooks and crannies, while working alongside some of the best trained cleaners around. Lots of benefits come with this employment; Pension, use of the School Gym and Swimming Pool (new complex being built as we speak), Tickets for the School Theatre (free if it's a School production), great Support Staff Christmas party. It can be pretty much a 'job for life' if you want it to be, and there's not many of those around these days!
Cons
As above, the rooms of teenagers can be challenging, but hey, look at it as a challenge!
