Pros
- incredibly lean organization, with no outside investors. private ownership allows for quick & flexible decision-making as the company grows. we are an agile, fluid business that is constantly evolving to better serve our clients, re-invest in employees (no layoffs due to market turndown / higher rates from 2021 onwards), and audit our own processes to maximize efficiency
- with commitment to daily excellence (prompt & accurate project execution), task ownership, and results, young employees are eligible for rapid promotions (& often potential to build their own role as the company grows)
- merit-based hierarchy offers comparatively high autonomy & freedom than other post-graduate careers (entrepreneurship, ability to lead & execute visionary ideas at the firm, etc.) once you've earned additional responsibility
- unparalleled development opportunities, incl. on-the-job training, employee empowerment (high-value tasks across the company early on), exposure to investors (as well as charities & other stakeholders), and more
Cons
- during periods of increased activity, time management is critical to ensure you do not stay late at the office. this has gotten better over my tenure (preventative checks & balances)
- the work can be demanding & stressful, but also incredibly rewarding
- annual targets are ambitious and warrant scrutiny when the team is underperforming, and can have real impacts on incentives when we are not up to the task. ability to meet the moment under pressure is imperative to team bonuses
