Poor job security – multiple rounds of redundancies over last three years in a relatively small company. In multiple cases, employees impacted by redundancy were working closely (often several times a week) with senior leaders involved in those decisions and would have considered them trusted colleagues. When redundancies were decided, those same individuals—along with others in senior roles—avoided direct communication and effectively “ghosted” impacted employees, rather than having respectful, empathetic conversations. This reflects a clear lack of leadership, accountability, basic professional and human decency, and integrity. Clique culture and lack of accountability allows problematic behaviours to persist.
