It's like a good old boys network for the CEO and his buddies, to the point that HR complaints were ignored for "his people" and you're told not to complain when bad things happen. Management is out of touch and what they do doesn't align with what they say. They say development and things like ESG are important, but in reality these things are very low priorities. The company paid out almost a billion in dividends in the last year, but laid people off, didn't invest in real change, and initiatives they talked about were often blocked by management.
