Great company culture, everyone is nice and friendly. I was in the Communications Department and loved everyone I worked with.

It can take much longer to achieve goals or affect change in some roles than it does in the private sector

Plenty of capable, personable co-workers. True "first-shift" hours with no weekends (in most positions). Good compensation. Great benefits, from insurance to plenty of state holidays (in most positions).

Some positions are very much at the mercy of an elected official. Depending on where and how you serve in the organization, you might find yourself out of work thanks to voters who don't even know you, but who just unelected your boss.
