Pros

reliable income, occasional bonuses, certainly some nice hard working people to work with. Benefits are average when compared to other healthcare systems in the area. In particular, when I reviewed openings and public salary information for equivalent positions at OSU, pay is relatively higher (about 5-10%)

Cons

the main chemistry line(s) broke regularly (1-2x per week on average) and required service to come in, which really backed things up when 10,000+ specimens are coming through daily. A lot of old equipment which needs to be replaced but management often opts to prioritize bringing in other analyzers first in spite of this The IT department situation is terrible since they outsourced the who department overseas, and it makes even simple changes or issues almost impossible to resolve in a reasonable amount of time. I often spent an hour+ on the phone with the new IT group to solve an issue the old IT group (before it was outsourced) could have completed in a about a quarter of the time. During the 4 years I spent there the quality of work life progressively decreased in a variety of ways. I felt as if I showed a lot of initiative and interest in improving my department, but my interest in making a significant contribution was never reciprocated with greater opportunities or practical appreciation

Pros

Somewhat decent pay for associates, but does it matter when your job isn't secure??

Cons

Another disappointing decision from corporate: eliminating all nurses in urgent care, regardless of tenure or performance. This feels like another example of leadership prioritizing small cost savings and lining their own pockets over patient safety and quality of care. Nurses were informed through a last minute Teams meeting where the director read from a prepared script about pre- and post- COVID staffing and the decision to return to so-called “national staffing standards.” No questions were allowed. Meanwhile, 16 job postings for medical assistants have already appeared in order to replace these asaociates (some nurses have already had the unknowing pleasure of training their MA replacements and learned that fact during the meeting! Wonderful!). If the change truly reflects national standards, even minimal research quickly raises questions about that explanation. It’s incredibly disheartening to see decisions like this being made at the expense of the nurses who have consistently supported these clinics and truly care about the patients they serve. Don't visit their urgent cares if your goal is to receive safe, competent care.
