Pros

State’s only level 1 trauma hospital, residents are usually nice, insurance coverage is decent. Easy-ish to get your foot in the door and get healthcare experience. “Guild” education benefits seem promising.

Cons

Quite literally everything else. This place is a disaster. Disorganized and disrespectful at every level. They love to fire their best employees over technicalities but they keep the laziest, rudest, most illiterate and incompetent people employed with no accountability. If you are terminated, regardless of reason, they escort you out like a common criminal without letting you pack your own belongings. I’ve watched multiple very good employees treated this way after small misunderstandings that they were given no leeway for or chance to correct or explain. Staff that show up late all the time or call in constantly or make critical mistakes and are high all the time around patients are allowed to continue working and are treated with dignity by management though. Hard working honest people are not valued whatsoever by this company and are treated like doormats and taken constant advantage of, then treated like felons by HR. It makes no sense. Working here is constantly frustrating because nothing runs smoothly at any level. Leadership keeps trying to implement new rules and strategies but none of it is well thought out or communicated, and nothing is applied fairly by HR and lower management. They have all these town halls and meetings and a wildly confusing and overwhelming Hub of information chaos that no one who actually does their job has time to sift through because we’re too bogged down picking up the slack of all the unproductive and unintelligent employees that OU Health doesn’t hold accountable. There is no consistency across this health system and everything still operates in a very fractured manner even though they pushed “we are one” for months leading up to the OU Health “merge”. Parking is a nightmare and just keeps getting worse, and the parking services employees both in the field and in the office are just shockingly rude and unprofessional for no reason. Everyone is sick all the time and comes to work sick because leadership decided that 3 call outs in a calendar year is excessive, regardless of reason or medical documentation. In a health system where most employees have young children and serve vulnerable patient populations, this is wildly unreasonable, unrealistic, and unsafe. Yet somehow, lazy employees who call out once a week or are 2 hours late nearly every day are allowed to keep their jobs with no write ups. Poor performance and behavior is rewarded and enabled while hard work is abused and disregarded. Safety is absolutely abysmal. Employees are not well trained on what to do in an emergency situation, half the doors that should be locked full time are not and they’re aren’t badge locks in most places, equipment is not kept sterile, HIPPA documents are not kept secure, and negligence in registration and patient care is RAMPANT. Things are rushed and chaotic and not well documented or communicated pretty much across the board. I would not come here as a patient after seeing what I have as an employee. Their safety reporting system has not lead to meaningful change. The providers are mostly good but I’ve heard about some absolutely horrifying malpractice situations from nursing staff and those physicians are somehow still allowed to practice and TEACH. OU Health is a demoralizing and degrading place to work if you have an ounce of integrity and work ethic. They don’t uphold their values whatsoever and don’t even try.
