Pros

Interesting work. Good pension. Exposure to different risk stripes.

Cons

Joining OSFI has been one of the most disappointing experiences, particularly since the leadership changes in the Capital Division two years ago. The current Managing Director appears to have built the management team largely based on favoritism rather than merit. As a result, the division suffers from ineffective leadership, poor decision-making, and a lack of openness to differing viewpoints. Constructive feedback and alternative perspectives are often discouraged instead of being welcomed, which has contributed to a toxic work culture. The emphasis is frequently placed on syntax and presentation rather than the substance of the work, making it difficult to have meaningful discussions or develop sound policy decisions. This approach has also hindered the division's ability to respond effectively to industry concerns and requests.

Pros

- Work-life balance - Exposure to many risk stripes - Good vacation and sick leave - Relaxed dress code - Indexed DB Pension

Cons

- Incredibly difficult to get promoted, may take 5+ years for most - Managers play favorites who will climb 2-3 positions in as many years - Extremely slow-moving bureaucracy - Health/Dental is weaker compared to private sector
