Pros

-People you work with are usually great (even the annoying/rude ones to were endearing). -Flexible scheduling IF you go to school -There were opportunities to actually improve customers’ days and it would make you feel better -If you slave away hard enough or network, maybe you can work in another department and get good training

Cons

After dealing with my co-workers being sexually harassed by a “guest” and recording the person’s actions, leadership refused to not allow this person from visiting the store. It would have escalated if the person kept coming but the only reason the person stopped coming is because he/she passed away. Who knows if someone may have been seriously hurt in the end. I was threatened with disciplinary action and/or termination if I kept pursuing to get this person banned with legitimate written, witness, and video evidence. After this incident I lost all faith here. It got to a point where I was harassed myself by someone in regional management not from my store before I finally was made effectively “forced” to quit. HR was not an option for any of this because it being a private company (maybe that’s the reason?) meant I was at the will of my leadership at the store and my rights or the rights of others did not matter compared to someone who simply held management over my department. This place is so shady that many of us who worked there received a check from a settlement made with Nugget when they were sued over abusing wage hours, lunches, breaks, etc. Unlike other jobs, Nugget actually tries to indoctrinate you into thinking you have a future there and that Nugget is your life. They will make you slave away and do things that will make you question the legality of it. There are no rules according to leadership. But if you know your worth, you should be able to easily avoid getting pulled in. You won’t make tips here but you WILL work 3x times as hard as person in your position would normally work outside of Nugget. You also won’t make enough extra money to give reason for your hard work. Maybe you’ll get a worthless picture of yourself on a wall no one cares about to try to eliminate any idea you have of realizing your actual worth as a person and an employee. Don’t let anyone tell you you can make a career here. Think about it, it’s a damn grocery store you fools. Unless you have a degree or good connections, you won’t make it to the one or two positions that actually make really good money. Discount is only 10%. In the end, Nugget takes the concept of “the customer is always right” and turns it into “the customer is always right but the customer is going to need your soul as well”.

Pros

Benefits, discount, 401k match, etc.

Cons

I was hired under confusing terms. I interviewed for a specialized position based on my prior experience, but was instead placed in an entry-level role with a slightly higher wage than they would normally give which was revoked a few days later via phone call. I reluctantly stayed, only to be assigned to the exact position I originally interviewed for, without the appropriate compensation. Promised full-time hours and consistent raises never materialized. As store performance declined, my hours were quietly cut with no communication. When I raised concerns, I was met with frustration rather than support. Advancement and promotions often appeared to favor younger employees who matched a specific image, rather than those with skill or experience. Performance seemed secondary to personality and appearance. There’s a strong culture of selling employees on the idea of long-term careers. Many, including myself, invested years expecting growth and stability, only to find ourselves underpaid and underdeveloped. It left several of us feeling misled and unprepared for better-paying opportunities elsewhere. The company has shifted its recruiting pitch to focus on “fun at work” perks like rafting trips, while competitors promote clear wage increases and higher starting pay. Overall if you work for this company or want to be in this business I would make it a very quick exit before 2 years. The company doesn’t have a bright future with an increasing number of competitors offering lower prices they are forced to take a page from other grocers; less labor and more profits. In the end you will likely end up behind career wise, over worked, have a lower wage than your peers, and struggle to pay the bills.
