Pros

I love working from home, I love the flexibility, and I love transcription work. It could be a dream job, if the cons weren't SO glaring.

Cons

The pay is awful. After 5 years of working for this company, my pay has decreased while my bills have increased. You are an "independent contractor", which means you have no security and no benefits. You won't get paid for stat holidays, you won't get sick time, you won't get vacation, you won't even get EI if you lose your job, get sick or need maternity leave. It's awful because I love working from home, I love not having a set schedule, and I truly enjoy doing transcription work, but no one can survive on the rates they pay - especially knowing there will never be a raise, and being classed as an "independent contractor" is bordering on illegal and not worth it. My dream job would be transcribing from home as an employee at an appropriate wage. The labour board really needs to investigate this company, but you can't put in an anonymous complaint, and you can kiss your job goodbye if you put one in (again, as an independent contractor, you have NO protection).

Pros

The company offers excellent training and a thorough onboarding process, helping new hires feel well-prepared and confident. The small, close-knit teams foster a collaborative and supportive work environment where you never feel lost in the crowd. Employees take pride in the innovative technology and software being developed, which is recognized as impactful within the industry. (Note: The company was acquired by Microsoft to bring potential for future growth.)

Cons

While the company excels in many areas, there’s limited upward mobility, especially in certain career paths, which can be frustrating for those seeking advancement. Additionally, feedback from employees often feels like it’s not taken seriously, which can lead to disengagement when trying to influence change or improve processes.
