Pros

There are talented individuals within the company who genuinely care about education and innovation.

Cons

Working at Nerdy has been a disappointing experience, especially for women. Leadership operates as a boys’ club, where men are hired and promoted based on their ability to “talk the talk” rather than the quality of their work or expertise. Insecurities among leadership manifest in a culture of bullying, where cutting others down is the default tactic to maintain control. The company’s priorities are fundamentally flawed. The product is severely broken, yet fixing core issues is consistently put on the back burner in favor of chasing the latest flashy trends, like AI. Meanwhile, the brand is a disorganized mess, with a fragmented front-end experience built across multiple outdated systems. Rather than addressing these long-standing problems, leadership continues to layer on ineffective solutions, making the platform harder for both clients and tutors to navigate. At its core, Nerdy still functions like an old-school call center rather than a modern ed-tech company. The platform is frustratingly difficult to use, and tutor satisfaction is low, leading to a declining quality of service. Despite its potential, meaningful progress seems unlikely without real investment in fixing foundational issues and fostering an inclusive, respectful culture. Would not recommend.
