Pros

Small team, accessible to customers. Long and stable history. Respect for technical excellence.

Cons

Owners relied on outdated Management team for input. Not open to new ideas. Small compamy so there is some bickering/drama.

Pros

As an Engineer you are exposed to every part of the process - ideation, design, drawings, building, & testing. As a first job or initial exposure to optics it can be nice. If you're willing to put up with a bunch of garbage and get in with the right people you can make decent money. They have access to some industry-standard equipment that can be added to the resume once you learn them. Most of the people that you work with are just trying to do their best and most of them are personable both in and outside work. You can really build an effective team when you're allowed to.

Cons

Mechanical Engineering - boilerplate designs, manager will do most of the fun work and leave the boring stuff for subordinates to do, no real opportunity for growth or challenge. Production - the production manager is the meanest and least personable person I've ever known. They make it miserable to be there and get annoyed or angry when you ask questions or "underperform." General - just the general this-is-what-we've-always-done vibe. The creepy guys on the production team - always cringey to see them interact with the new ladies Navitar would hire on Production. If you're not a straight white guy don't expect them to springboard you into new and exciting career opportunities.
