Pros

Better pay than most academic institutions, better in-lab funding, access to top notch seminars/training lectures, most labs are 9-6, get to work with talented individuals, excellent support staff, right off the metro (NIH can provide metrocheks to pay for metro/marc train, most labs are family friendly

Cons

academics assume you're stuck up, some bosses try to rule by fear, some people are stuck up/racist/sexist/xenophobic against Americans, some people are unwilling to help/train others, administration (ID badge, pay) can be very difficult to work with an inefficient, if you have to drive in traffic can be a nightmare, some bosses look down on those who don't work 70hours/week

Pros

Working with the some of the smartest scientists and clinicians in the world. So many learning opportunities. Kind patients. Allowed time to care for patients as there is no pressure of quotas by health insurance.

Cons

Nursing management can be verbally abusive with frequent retaliation and intimidation. As most older nurses have worked there for most of their career, they are dismissive of new perspectives and resistant to evidence-based practice.
